Knew shouda taken that left turn at Albuqueque! Bugs finds himself down Mexico way, burrowing into a bullfight arena, in the 1953 Chuck Jones-directed Looney Tunes short Bully for Bugs. That was the inspiration for this original Virgil Ross drawing of matador Bugs and the big, mean-looking TORO the bull he encounters.
Several of the cartoons he worked on were nominated for Academy Awards, and Mr. Ross himself was given the prestigious Winsor McCay Award in 1988. He spent time at several other studios, most notably Hanna-Barbera and Filmation.
